The 2010 William S. Thomson Scholarship winner - Craig Folcik...

The William S. Thomson scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate/graduate student who was previously a  Rotary Club of Southington Scholarship recipient as a senior in high school. This year’s $3,500 scholarship is awarded to Craig Folcik:

Craig graduated with honors from Southington High School. He will be entering his senior year at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing where he is a member of Sigma Theta Tao, an international nursing honor society, and The Student Nurse Association at UConn. Craig is  also a member of the
Urban Service Tract, an organization that brings medical, dental, pharmacy and nursing students to areas that are underserved. This past year he and 9 other students raised $6,000 and volunteered during spring break to build houses with the Christian Appalachian Project. Learning the culture and far different life-styles of those that live in Appalachia inspired Craig to reach out to the needy. This semester he will be studying his medical/surgical and psychiatric rotations in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is currently studying Latin American Spanish in hopes to be able to understand the life-style of and serve the people of Puerto Rico better as they use American hospitals, diminishing the burdens of the language barrier.  Craig also has many extra curricular activities such as Gospel Choir, HuskyTHON Dance Class, Community School of the Arts and a student leader for St. Thomas Church. He is truly honored to be the recipient of the William S. Thomson Memorial Scholarship.
